Thrilla is an adorable 21-year-old cat.

Every morning, the cat has his little ritual.

He likes to wake his owner up by coming into his bedroom and meowing until he opens his eyes and gets up to feed him!

A broken routine

However, on 24th February, nothing went as planned. Thrilla's owner didn't get his usual wake-up call. Worried, he went downstairs to find the cat in the living room. More precisely, Thrilla was sleeping in his basket, near the radiator.

He can be seen in the video footage below. When the cat hears his owner coming down the stairs, he turns his head towards him and gives him an inquisitive look, as if to say: ”What are you doing here?”. The cat certainly seems confused by the situation.

A case of dementia?

It was a combination of several factors that made Thrilla's owner suspicious. The cat wasn't following his usual morning routine, he wasn't sleeping in his usual spot, and he had a confused look on his face. These signs, combined with the fact that he is a senior cat, made his owner certain. He believes Thrilla is suffering from “feline senile dementia”, also known as “feline cognitive dysfunction”. This is a condition in cats that shares many similarities with Alzheimer's disease in humans.

This behaviour seems to be confirmed by one user who commented: ”He has absolutely no idea what's going on, he just knows he's in a warm, comfy bed.” Other users were puzzled: ”How can you be sure the cat has dementia?”. To which Thrilla's owner replied: ”They are often confused and meow for no reason.” We hope Thrilla gets back to his usual routine soon and wish him all the best.
