In a remote area of Texas Canyon near Santa Clarita, California, a dog was heard barking non-stop.

Two members of the Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue team had gone into the canyon to scout a location for training.

When they heard a dog barking in the distance, they feared someone might be trapped in the canyon with their pet.

A life-saving instinct

The rescuers followed the barking for about ten minutes until they spotted a black, white and tan puppy. He was barking and running towards them, then turning back to go up the hill. It was as if he wanted the two men to follow him to a specific spot...

So, the rescuers followed the little dog. Where he led them, they found two other dogs sitting amongst the dust and rocks. The dogs were in desperate need of help. The rescuers sat with the three of them for a few minutes while they called for backup.

A high-risk rescue

Due to the rough and unstable terrain, the two rescuers moved slowly, making sure to keep the three dogs by their side. They had to carry them at times to prevent them from falling off a ledge. After 30 minutes, the group reached flatter ground, where the dogs seemed relieved and much more comfortable.

A phone number on one of the dog's collars allowed the search and rescue team to find their owners, who lived on a farm about 6 miles away. The trio had been missing since the previous day, and their family had been searching everywhere for them, never imagining they were trapped in the canyon. Thankfully, all's well that ends well, and the three dogs are now enjoying a well-deserved rest back at home.
