Community rallies to save 18 puppies dumped on a New Jersey street

By Elodie Carpentier

A wave of emotion and solidarity has swept through a small town in New Jersey. Eighteen puppies, abandoned in the middle of the street, were brought to safety thanks to the quick thinking of local residents and the efforts of a local rescue centre.

Residents of Jefferson Avenue in New Jersey witnessed an almost unbelievable scene on the 20th of June. The neighbourhood's peace and quiet was shattered when eighteen young puppies were discovered wandering in the road.

Locals spring into action

Faced with the immediate danger posed by traffic, the residents didn't hesitate to step in and help the young animals.

The 18 puppies, all mixed-breeds and around four months old, were initially cared for by the residents before being transferred to the non-profit organisation Common Sense for Animals.

An urgent appeal for foster homes

Although the puppies are part of an ongoing legal case to identify and prosecute those responsible for abandoning them, the rescue centre has launched an urgent appeal to the community. They are looking for temporary foster homes for the puppies for a period of two weeks to two months.

This initiative aims to relieve pressure on the rescue centre and provide these puppies with a loving environment where they can socialise properly.
