In November 2025, when they arrived with their littermates at the Yolo County SPCA rescue centre in California, the rescuers immediately fell for their adorable little faces.
Benny and Lydia are two black and white kittens with patches all over their bodies.
A puzzling problem
The team made sure the kittens had everything they could possibly need: love, care, and a soft, safe place to stay. But as the weeks went by, the rescuers noticed something odd. While their littermates were growing as expected, Benny and Lydia simply weren't getting any bigger.
After running some more tests, the vets finally had a diagnosis: hypothyroidism. Luckily, the kittens were in the right place. Yolo County SPCA has a network of foster families specially trained to care for kittens with their condition. The centre shared their story with the community and quickly found the perfect foster home for the pair.
A bright future
To treat their hypothyroidism, Benny and Lydia need medication twice a day. After two months of this routine, the kittens finally started to grow!
With the kittens now thriving, the rescuers decided it was time to put them up for adoption. Benny and Lydia are completely unaware of their condition and love to play just like any other kittens their age. The centre has confirmed that the pair don't need to be adopted together, and they are both eagerly waiting to find their forever homes!
