Man hears cries from the bushes and discovers a basket filled with babies

By Elise Petter

While standing by a busy road, a man was stopped in his tracks by faint whimpering coming from the bushes. As he went over to investigate, he discovered an old shopping basket. Inside, five tiny kittens were struggling together to get attention.

Hearing the repeated tiny cries, the man stopped what he was doing immediately to head into the undergrowth. He was confused at first to see a simple plastic shopping basket dumped there, but he realised quickly that the cries for help were coming from inside.

Five tiny kittens were huddled inside, disoriented and distressed. Without wasting a single second, the passerby pulled them out of the bushes and contacted the Galway SPCA in Ireland immediately to ask for emergency help.

Scientific names for five little miracle kittens

“We are grateful they were found before something much worse happened,” shared the Galway SPCA on their Facebook page.

At this time of year, rescue centres are overwhelmed with daily calls about abandoned litters of kittens. Despite being extremely busy, the volunteers did everything they could to give the little family the care and medical supervision they needed during their first weeks at the shelter.

To celebrate their resilience, the rescuers gave them some very original themed names: Beaker, Bunsen, Cuvette, Petri and Pipette.

Learning how to live a real cat's life

Once their health had stabilised, the happy bunch were able to leave the shelter to move temporarily into a warm foster home. The kittens are not yet available for adoption, as they first need to grow and complete their basic veterinary care.

In their temporary home, they are receiving all the attention they need to thrive and learn how to become real house cats. The charity stated: “They will be able to experience all the comforts of family life while their veterinary care continues, and they will learn all the basics needed to be fully ready to join their forever homes in the coming months.” Thanks to this observant passerby, these five little lives avoided a very sad fate.
