A heartbreaking discovery

They managed to contact the person registered to Wonka's microchip, but she was unable to take him in or cover his medical care. As Wonka is a Dachshund, Dachshund Rescue South Florida, a charity dedicated to the breed, shared his story on Facebook on 12th November.

The Dachshund-loving community quickly rallied to help him and cover his dental costs. The rescuers raised all the necessary funds to get him the dental surgery he desperately needed.

The community rallies round

Poor Wonka was already missing ten teeth and had to have all his remaining ones removed. According to the vet who performed the surgery, it was the worst mouth he had ever seen. After his operation, Wonka stayed at a 24-hour clinic for monitoring.

The little dog is recovering well from his surgery, which is very reassuring given his advanced age. Social media users were deeply moved by Wonka's journey. They shared supportive messages in the comments: "Wonka, I'm so sorry. You didn't deserve this," one user commented. Another wrote: "This is cruel. I don't understand." We wish Wonka a speedy recovery and hope he finds his forever family very soon.
