While out for a mountain walk with his owners, a dog named Bunsen suddenly bolted, completely ignoring their calls. This was very out of character for the Bernese Mountain Dog, as he was usually very obedient and predictable.
An urgent rescue
But this time, the dog was unstoppable. His owners ran after him, calling his name. After a while, he stopped dead in front of his target... another dog lying in the snow! The poor animal was trapped, unable to move and close to freezing to death.
Bunsen's owners were in shock. They never expected to find a dog trapped in the snow. They tried to gain the dog's trust by offering some treats. Then, they placed the dog on a sledge and made their way down the mountain.
A happy reunion
Once they got home, they made the dog comfortable and warm. After searching on social media, they found a missing dog report for a female named Bailey. By the time she was found, she had been missing for 48 hours.
Her family came to collect her immediately. They were incredibly relieved and grateful that she was alive. As internet users pointed out, the real hero of the rescue was Bunsen and his outstanding sense of smell: "Bunsen, a true superhero without a cape. He's incredible." Another commented: "Your dog deserves to be recognised for his heroism! Twice over! What a joy that Bunsen found Bailey in the snow!" Well done, Bunsen, you truly deserve a medal!
