Man dumps dog at shelter in the dead of night: his actions turn into a disaster

By Ludivine Mazzotti

On 28th May, rescuers at Dundalk Dog Rescue (DDR) in Ireland arrived at work to find a dog had been abandoned outside the shelter's gates.

After checking the shelter's CCTV footage, staff discovered that the dog had been left at around 5:45 in the morning.

When the rescuers approached, the dog, who they named Hope, was trembling all over.

A terrified dog

The dog remained frozen to the spot on the ground, avoiding any eye contact with the humans. The person who had abandoned her had left a note and a bowl of water nearby.

The anonymous note told the rescuers more about the owner's difficult situation, but sadly, it contained nothing about Hope herself. There was no information about her history, her health, or any previous issues. All the details that could help the rescuers care for her and find her the perfect home were missing.

Following the correct procedure

In their Facebook post, the rescuers explained that the way Hope was abandoned helps no one: not the owner, not the dog, and not the rescue centre. In fact, it has delayed their rescue process. Because Hope was left without any surrender paperwork being signed, they must follow the legal procedure and wait for a statutory period to pass before the shelter can legally take ownership of her.

For now, Hope is resting at the shelter. The rescuers are continuing to get to know this brave dog and gather all the information needed to help her find her forever home.
