On her TikTok account, Sarah, a woman from Oregon in the US, shared a heartbreaking video of her grandfather's dog.
As she explains on her profile, she found her grandad's dog tied to a tree.
A beloved companion neglected
Riley, the 13-year-old dog, was "the best friend" of her grandfather, who had passed away a short time before. Sarah explains that Riley had been a great comfort when her grandmother died.
When her grandfather passed away, Sarah offered to take Riley in. According to Newsweek, her request was denied. Her grandfather's animals had been rehomed elsewhere.
But Sarah never gave up. And it's a good thing she didn't, as she later discovered that her grandfather's dog was being neglected.
Two more years of love
As well as Riley, Sarah and her husband also managed to take in her grandfather's horses. Riley lived with her family for two more years before she passed away from a stroke: "We were able to heal and grieve together."
