It took thirteen long years for her dream to come true, but thankfully, it finally has.
Irma was thrown into a bin with her brothers and sisters when they were just tiny, helpless puppies...
A heartbreaking start
The puppies were taken to the George Stray Dogs shelter in Heraklion, on the Greek island of Crete. Irma was adopted shortly after, but just eight months later, her family brought her back to the shelter, wanting to give her up.
At the time, no one could have imagined that Irma would spend so many years at the shelter. But sadly, after 13 long years behind the bars of her kennel, Irma had given up. She no longer believed she would ever find her forever family.
An unexpected turn
But a tragic event changed everything. Irma's brother, who was rescued at the same time as her and had also spent over a decade at the shelter, passed away without ever finding a family. This heartbreaking story deeply moved Susanne, a volunteer at the shelter. She had already adopted two puppies and two senior dogs in the past.
Sadly, two of her own dogs had passed away over the last year. The death of Irma's brother was a wake-up call for her. Fearing that Irma might never find a forever home, she decided to adopt her. In the video below, you can see Irma joyfully embracing her new life. It's filled with cuddles, games of fetch in the park, and naps on the sofa. We wish you all the happiness, dear Irma!
