But a tabby cat had other ideas and decided to knock on her door.
On Tuesday 4th November, the woman shared several photos of a cat looking perfectly at home in every room of her flat.
Making himself at home
If you didn't read the caption, you'd think the cat had lived in this home all his life! On the contrary, the caption reveals that the cat "forced" the lady to adopt him. "I wasn't ready for a new cat after losing one in June 2024 and another last March. This tabby cat decided we were ready when he walked in and made himself at home."
After a trip to the vet, which confirmed the cat was healthy and had neither a microchip nor any missing reports, she and her partner decided to adopt him. For the tabby, there was no need for a transition between life on the streets and the inside of a home, as he already felt at home before he was even officially adopted!
A decision approved
The lady decided to name the tabby Albert, after the character from Little House on the Prairie. In the comments, people approved of the lady's decision to adopt Albert. "Albert understood the assignment! I'm just imagining your two cats flipping through a cat catalogue. 'Yes! That's the one. Send him!'"
Another person was amazed by the way cats choose their homes. "I love how cats just casually move into a house and say, 'I live here now,' and we just say, 'Alright.'" We couldn't agree more. It's often the cats who choose us, rather than the other way round!
