They decided to spend the night in a national park in Colorado, USA, and set up camp.
Although they had a peaceful night, Nakee woke up to a terrible shock. Sometime during the night, both cats had managed to escape from the tent.
A sudden disappearance
The couple quickly found Lewis, but Fridge, their three-year-old cat, was nowhere to be seen. They spent hours searching the surrounding area, but sadly, there was no sign of her.
Heartbroken, Nakee and her partner eventually had to hit the road again, as they had no choice but to head back home to Minnesota. They felt as though they had lost a member of their family, which is completely understandable.
Keeping hope alive
Over the following weeks, Nakee never gave up hope of finding Fridge. She stayed in touch with the park rangers and checked lost-and-found pet websites every single day.
Then, after forty days alone in the Colorado wilderness, Fridge was found alive! The brave little cat was taken to a local shelter, where her microchip quickly revealed her owner's details. Nakee was absolutely overjoyed. She drove sixteen hours to collect Fridge, and their reunion was incredibly emotional.
Thankfully, Fridge was in good health despite her unbelievable ordeal. She is a bit thinner than before, which is only natural after spending 40 days in the Colorado wild. But Fridge has nothing to worry about now. She is back with the people who love her most, where she is being thoroughly spoiled and pampered after her big adventure.
