Members of the community acted quickly, rounding up the frightened animals and keeping them safe until officers from the Wantage Grove & Faringdon Neighbourhood Team arrived.

Police praise community effort and launch investigation

Thames Valley Police said the dogs are thought to have come from a suspected puppy farm. They were taken to local vets for health checks before arrangements were made to place them in temporary care.

Officers praised residents for their swift response and compassion, saying their actions may have saved the dogs’ lives. “The community showed just how incredible they are,” a police spokesperson said.

“Thank you to everyone who stepped up – you’ve made a real difference.”

The investigation into who abandoned the dogs is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Authorities have reminded the public that puppy farming and animal neglect remain serious welfare concerns across the UK.
