Their evening walk suddenly turned into a rescue mission.
It all started when Popcorn spotted a paper bag on the ground...
A huge surprise
The dog went over for a sniff, and that's when the bag started to... meow! Popcorn jumped back, startled and surprised. Destinie rushed over and discovered a small black and white kitten inside.
She picked up the kitten to check on it. Thankfully, it was unharmed but trembling with fear. The little cat seemed terrified of Popcorn. Destinie quickly realised she couldn't get home safely with both Popcorn and the kitten. So, she decided to take the kitten back to the tree where they had found it, drop Popcorn off at home, and then rush back with a pet carrier and some treats.
A happy reunion
On paper, it seemed like a great plan. But when Destinie returned to the park ten minutes later with all her rescue gear, the kitten was nowhere to be found.
She used her phone's torch to search the park, calling for the kitten, but to no avail. She was devastated. After about 15 minutes of searching, Destinie sat down, feeling defeated. Just as she was about to give up, the little kitten ran right up to her!
Destinie carried her home and then started searching for the kitten's family. Unfortunately, after looking online, she discovered it was a stray kitten that neighbours had been feeding for a few months, but no one had taken her in yet.
When a vet later confirmed that the kitten had no microchip and no family, Destinie and her family decided to give her a forever home. Everyone has fallen in love with the new kitten, especially Destinie's 7-year-old daughter. Now all they need to do is find a name for her!
