Finding a kitten in a bin leads to the rescue of over 20 animals from a living hell

By Elodie Carpentier•

A rescue mission took an unexpected turn in France. Thanks to a dog's keen nose and its owner's vigilance, a kitten trapped alive in a rubbish bag was pulled from an underground bin. This dreadful discovery led rescuers to another astonishing find.

This extraordinary rescue began on 28th September in the town of Le Teil, in Ardèche, France. Whilst out on her usual walk, a local resident was struck by her dog's sudden change in behaviour. The dog stopped dead in its tracks beside a rubbish bin. Intrigued, the owner then heard faint meowing coming from inside.

She immediately raised the alarm with the police. Deep inside the bin, sealed inside an airtight bag buried under rubbish, officers found a young kitten.

A shocking turn of events

The police quickly launched an investigation to identify the animal's owner. They soon carried out a search at the suspect's home.

24 cats and two dogs rescued

What they found inside was truly horrifying. Rescuers discovered 24 cats and kittens alongside two dogs living in dreadful sanitary conditions. The animals were kept in an unsanitary environment, with no veterinary care or microchips.

Taken in by the Refuge de l'Espoir – SPA de Pierrelatte et du Tricastin shelter, the cats are receiving all the veterinary care they need to get back on their paws before being put up for adoption.
