Inside the backpack was a cat. And that was not all: the dog was tied directly to the carrier bag. Without wasting a second, the walker contacted the emergency services. Rescuers from the RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch quickly arrived at the scene.
Once there, the dog's health deeply worried the rescue team. She had very long claws, bald patches in her fur, cloudy eyes, fleas and, most concerning of all, a lump on her abdomen.
Her microchip revealed that her name was Angel, but there was no other information registered. As for the cat, he wasn't microchipped, but thankfully his health was in a much better state.
On the road to recovery
Fortunately, despite her worrying condition, Angel is responding well to treatment. She is currently on antibiotics, and she has surgery scheduled to remove the lump on her abdomen.
The RSPCA is now searching for the person responsible for this terrible abandonment. The poor things had been left with no food or water, exposed to all kinds of dangers.
