Pet owners are being urged to remain vigilant after two dogs were stolen from a supermarket car park in Essex before later being found safe.

Officers said the theft occurred at around 9.15am and immediately launched an appeal for information, asking members of the public to check CCTV and dash-cam footage.

Warning to dog owners

Essex Police confirmed the pets have since been reunited with their owners but stressed that incidents of this nature serve as a serious warning. A spokesperson said dog theft remains a concern, particularly when animals are left unattended in vehicles, even for short periods of time.

Never leave dogs in cars or tied up

Owners are advised never to leave pets alone in cars or tied up outside shops, as it can make them easy targets for opportunistic thieves. Police also encourage residents to report suspicious behaviour around parked vehicles, especially if animals are visible inside.

Anyone with information about attempted thefts or related activity can report it online through the Essex Police website or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
