Six tiny kittens abandoned in a rubbish tip in the Scottish Borders have found loving homes after weeks of dedicated care.

The malnourished litter of three males and three females were discovered at Eyemouth Recycling Centre in late May.

Weak, frightened and suffering from fleas, worms and painful eye infections, they were rushed to Borders Pet Rescue for urgent treatment.

Round-the-clock care

Staff and foster carers nursed the four-week-old kittens back to health, providing round-the-clock care and a safe home environment where they could learn to trust again.

Within a month, the once frail animals had grown into lively, playful kittens ready for adoption.

Friends-themed names

Centre manager Kim McNeill said their “strong bond and the laughter they brought to us” inspired staff to name them after the beloved characters from the sitcom Friends – Joey, Ross, Chandler, Phoebe, Monica and Rachel. The choice was also a nod to Phoebe’s famous song Smelly Cat, which became an anthem for neglected pets.

The rescue shared updates online, capturing thousands of hearts and raising vital funds for veterinary care. Kim confirmed all six kittens are now settled in permanent homes, each beginning “a new chapter filled with love and joy.”
