Following the brief they had been given earlier that day, the team started hauling pieces of scrap metal into the dumpster.
Then one of the men saw something furry move.
Tiny babies in need of help
Three tiny, terrified kittens had been thrown into the dumpster, in a cruel act that shocked the team to their core.
They contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis, who immediately agreed to help.
“We're so thankful the construction workers saw them when they did before they started throwing heavy scraps in!” rescuers told The Dodo. “They tried to hide, but we were able to rescue all three within just a few minutes.”
Safe at last
The kittens were severely dehydrated and one was tragically missing a paw.
But thanks to the quick thinking of the workers and the volunteers, they now have a chance at a brighter future.
Stray Rescue is hopeful they will soon be moving on to a foster home, where they can learn to enjoy the company of people. Then, when they're ready, they will find them loving homes of their own.
