At first glance, the scene seemed unremarkable: the shelter entrance at night, with a dark car pulling up.
That's what volunteers at Woodgreen Pets Charity thought on 22 September 2023 at 8:57 pm. The camera showed the car speeding away quickly, and moments later, a completely terrified dog was seen wandering around the entrance.
Staffie dumped outside rescue centre
Crouched low with her tail between her legs, the animal began searching everywhere, disoriented and in danger, as the shelter was located in the London borough of Haringey, opposite a busy road.
Staff immediately headed towards the entrance and tried to coax the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who eventually responded to their calls.
The dog was brought to safety
Staff managed to bring the frightened dog to safety, though it took considerable coaxing before the animal followed them inside the premises. Only then could they breathe a sigh of relief.
Once at the rescue centre, Nellie gradually began to relax. Soon after, she won the hearts of all the volunteers.
With help from thousands of internet users, the Staffie not only found a foster family, but was later adopted into a permanent home, where she could stay forever without fear of being abandoned again.
