Charity issues appeal after 34 Poodles rescued from house in Epsom Downs

By Greta Inglis

A couple from Epsom Downs were arrested two weeks ago, following reports of 34 Poodles in urgent need of help. Now the charity who saved them needs support.

A 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of breaching a Community Behaviour Order and animal neglect.

Now released on bail, they had been housing an increasing number of dogs over the last two to three years.

Tears of relief

A neighbour, Suzanne, told the BBC she was in almost in tears, filled with relief that the dogs were getting the care they desperately needed. "The barking and the smell got worse and worse" she explained.

Thankfully, Julie Aldcroft, of Poodle Network UK immediately agreed to help.

An appeal for more support

The dogs were taken to safety, with many placed in foster homes to begin the rehabilitation process.

"We are working incredibly hard to get these dogs back to health" Julie explained in an update. "We are so grateful to everyone who has donated so far. The change it makes to the dogs, to be able to rehabilitate them and get them back to health is not an easy feat."

The council's investigation is ongoing.
