Abandoning a pet doesn't come without consequences for the animal.
You'll understand this when you watch the video of Mia, a German Shepherd who was surrendered to the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.
Anxiety troubles
Mia was given up by her family because they could no longer care for her. Overnight, she found herself in a kennel waiting for someone to come and take her home.
As you'll see, this abandonment has deeply traumatised the dog, who has begun developing anxiety that prevents her from leaving her bed: "She's too nervous to leave her bed unless someone comes to comfort her," the shelter explained.
Moved everyone to tears
The situation has deeply moved internet users:
"I can't stop crying, her sweet face breaks my heart,"
"Mia needs a loving forever home, why do some people abandon their dogs?" and,
"Come on, Fort Lauderdale.. She's a beautiful girl who just needs a bit of love and a forever home," people have written.
