Taking a stand for pride, tolerance and confidence for the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond - that's what Pride Month is all about.

June has been Pride Month for several years now. For a whole month, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer culture and community takes centre stage and is celebrated - standing against stigma and exclusion. The symbol: the rainbow.

Now our furry housemates can show their support too. This is made possible by what's perhaps the most colourful tinned food of the year: Lily's Kitchen's "Love & Pride" edition. It's a fascinating initiative - and I, Philipp, editorial director of Wamiz Germany, got my cat "Minka" to test it straight away.

Food test: Lily's Kitchen's "Love & Pride" edition

Very much in the spirit of the Pride movement, Lily's Kitchen's "Love & Pride" edition comes in rainbow colours. So unpacking the test package is already a colourful and cheerful affair.

The limited edition created specially for Pride Month includes two menus for furry foodies. Exclusively for cats, there's the chicken with cod and prawn pâté variety. Dog owners can join in the monthly celebration too - there's also a delicious Love & Pride menu from Lily's Kitchen for dogs, featuring chicken with peppers and turmeric.

How good does the rainbow taste?

My cat is actually a proper gourmet - not every food passes her taste test. So I'm extremely curious to see what she makes of this colourful menu. Paws up or paws down?

Minka starts off playing the stern restaurant critic. She sniffs carefully and very thoroughly at the brightly coloured packaging of the menu before turning her attention to her bowl.

But then - miracle of miracles! - Minka finally takes her first bite. Very cautiously at first, but then she practically pounces on it and begins to *feast* with gusto! But that's not all - she even purrs wildly between mouthfuls.

Afterwards she has a thorough clean - but only to rub around my legs again straight away and signal that she could manage another little portion... That was crystal clear: the menu gets a feline Michelin star!

Paws up for Pride and love

Lily's Kitchen announces the limited edition with the slogan: "Paws up for Pride." I reckon my cat is happy to join in.

The next day she actually raises both front paws - when she sees she's getting another one of those delicious colourful meals. But mainly because it's not happening quickly enough for her liking until the contents are finally in her food bowl. Obviously a direct hit.

What's special about this Pride food? It's not just about the taste. In the UK, 100% of profits from this Pride edition will be donated to Lily's Kitchen charity partner Switchboard, the national LGBQTIA+ support line, and the incredible, life-altering work that they do.

The expert's verdict

Our conclusion: all four test menus were devoured enthusiastically by my cat. Her clear verdict: 5 out of 5!

For me as a pet owner, choosing Lily's Kitchen's Love & Pride edition has a doubly positive effect: Minka ate well and was very satisfied with the food. And she's done something good too. Thumbs and paws up!
