The dramatic encounter took place just before midnight on 14 June in Monrovia, where homeowner Zoë Cadman had woken to find a bear roaming her kitchen.
Footage from Cadman’s security cameras shows the bear wandering through the house, sniffing around the kitchen before coming face-to-face with Doodle.
Night-time intruder
Despite the bear’s imposing size, the senior dog barked and growled until the animal backed off.
In the video, Doodle calmly walks out of the room with the bear following, seemingly reluctant to leave. Cadman later shared the footage online, describing the surreal moment.
“Imagine waking up to find a bear 10 feet from your bed!” she wrote. “Brave Doodle saved the day.”
Local legend
The bear had first been spotted in Cadman’s garden before pushing through an unlocked door to explore the house.
Local wildlife officials have not commented on the incident, but neighbours praised Doodle’s bravery, calling the dog a “local legend.”
There were no injuries reported, and the bear reportedly left the area without further incident.
