Dog trainer Joel Beckman, known on TikTok as @beckmansdogtraining, was filming his dogs, Prince and Duke, roughhousing near the pool.
The pair raced around the garden when Prince gave Duke a playful nudge that sent him stumbling backwards into the water.
Unexpected bath for Duke
The viral clip, which has now racked up over 1.2 million views, shows Duke flailing before making a splash, as the caption jokes: “He needed a bath anyways.”
Beckman later shared the full video on Instagram, explaining he didn’t jump in after Duke but calmly called him to the pool steps.
The incident has reignited discussions about pet safety around pools. Experts recommend teaching dogs to use the steps and considering fences or alarms around pools.
Better to be safe than sorry
Owners are also advised never to leap in after a struggling dog unless it’s safe, especially in deep or fast-moving water.
Viewers were split on whether Prince meant it. “I feel like Prince knew exactly what he was doing,” one joked. Beckman disagreed, noting Prince looked startled after the splash.
