Having been rescued as a very young puppy, Mona travelled to a loving home. But she was so traumatised by her ordeal, she spent the next five years in hiding.

Mona was found roaming the streets of Romania with eleven other puppies and two mother dogs.

They were taken in a re-homed, with Mona making the long journey to a family in Scotland. She lived with them for 5 years, but traumatised and terrified, she never truly settled.

Years in hiding

Mona's family really loved her, but they just weren't equipped to work with her to help her overcome her fears. For 5 long years, the little brown dog spent most of her time hiding under a bed - tucked away from everyone and everything.

Thankfully, in August last year, Safe Rescue for Dogs UK heard about Mona's plight, and they immediately agreed to step in.

The team drove from Norfolk to Scotland to collect her. Then the rehabilitation process began.

Highly experienced with fearful rescue dogs, they knew exactly what to do. They gradually helped her learn how to walk on a lead, how to enjoy affection and even how to play. And now, after many months of patience and dedication, little Mona is finally ready to find her forever home.

Ready to find her person

Mona needs a one to one environment where she will blossom and continue to grow in confidence. Still wary of humans, she needs a very experienced home, with no children.

She wouldn't enjoy city life, so the team hope to find her somewhere tranquil, with a four-legged friend to guide her as she settles in.

Despite her fear, Mona is the sweetest girl. "She actually enjoys a fuss on her own terms and can be very affectionate once she knows you well", explains Safe Rescue.
