Miss Honey and her puppy, Matilda, arrived at the shelter recently and were immediately recognised as inseparable.
When staff attempted to treat Matilda’s leg injury, Miss Honey refused to be separated from her.
Refused to be separated
“While our veterinary team was cleaning and bandaging Matilda's paw injuries, we heard Miss Honey's heart-wrenching cries from down the corridor,” said Jennifer Harris, Public Relations Coordinator at the Kentucky Humane Society.
Staff quickly brought the mother into the room, where she stayed for the entire treatment process. Even the night before Matilda's surgery, Miss Honey would not leave her side.
Fostered together
Recognising their close bond, the shelter placed them in the same foster home to reduce stress. “Matilda loves to snuggle under her mum’s chin for naps, and Miss Honey seeks cuddles to decompress. Their bond is nothing short of comforting,” said Harris.
Now in foster care, Miss Honey is gaining weight, and Matilda is adjusting to life on three legs. Most importantly, both are learning to trust and thrive in a loving home environment.
What a loving and devoted mum!
