When the team behind Safe Rescue UK visited found ET at the Botosani public shelter in 2020, he was not coping well.
The Boxer mix had already been there for some time, and he was thin and suffering from chronic stress.
"He would circle his cage flying at dogs either side. There was nothing that we could do for him back then except to pay to get him neutered in the hope that it would chill him out and help him cope better. Fast forward two years and we finally got to return to Botosani and I barely recognised him", explained a member of the rescue team.
ET's transformation
ET was steady, calm and loving when volunteers returned to the shelter. He joined them on every lunch break he could, and his behaviour around other dogs had dramatically improved.
"This boy was on a walk with me when I found a puppy and he was so sweet to her when I caught her. On another occasion shelter staff went to his pen one morning to find a tiny puppy that had escaped from the next pen curled up asleep on him", Safe Rescue recalls.
But with so many bull breeds already struggling to find homes in the UK, the team didn't feel they could bring him over. Broken hearted, they said goodbye for yet another visit.
A surprising turn of events
Then, in March this year, ET became seriously ill with Babesiosis. Fearing for his life, the UK volunteers arranged for him to travel to a foster home in England.
Since his arrival, ET hasn't stopped surprising people. He's friendly with everyone he meets, shares his space with other dogs, and loves his walks.

"We need the best home ever for this super special boy. I’m going to insist that it’s written in the adoption contract for him to be pampered and spoilt rotten for the time he has left", joked his rescuer.
