In photographs, Shanel looks like a confident, outgoing girl. But in reality, the 5-year-old crossbreed carries the baggage of a very unusual past.
Shanel lived on the streets for a long time with her owner before she arrived at the shelter.
A sensitive girl
Having experienced harsh daily life alongside her owner, she really struggles to feel secure. Behind her defence mechanisms and sensitivities, there's a heart that only wants to be loved.
Since arriving at the shelter, Shanel has already made great progress. The beautiful red-coated Labrador cross used to be very fearful and unpredictable, but she is gradually learning to trust the team that cares for her.
Despite their best efforts, the shelter staff don't have enough time to devote to Shanel, who would progress much faster in a home of her own.
Finding her forever home
Shanel may seem reserved, but she craves affection and the love of a family. She just needs to find the right home, where she can face her fears at her own pace.
Shanel would not be comfortable living with children, so staff are hoping an adult-only home will soon come forward. They have no doubt that, with time and patience, Shanel will make the sweetest, most loyal companion.
