A collie cross named Hiro has finally found a loving home after spending over two years at Dogs Trust Merseyside following the tragic passing of his owner.

Nine-year-old Collie, Hiro, was first adopted as a puppy but had to return to the Huyton-based rehoming centre in January 2023.

Despite his affectionate nature, he faced a long wait due to his nervousness and Addison’s Disease, which requires ongoing medication.

A perfect match

His fortunes finally changed when Natasha Rose from Nettleham, Lincolnshire, spotted him on the Dogs Trust website. Drawn to long-waiting dogs, she registered her interest and visited Hiro on Valentine’s Day with her daughter Jenny-Anne.

“I knew it would be worth the journey if I could give him the home he needed,” Natasha said. After spending two days bonding, the team declared it a perfect match.

Happiness for Hiro!

A week later, Hiro made the 150-mile journey to his new home, settling in seamlessly.

Dogs Trust manager Georgina Lowery said, “We are thrilled for Hiro. He’s a wonderful dog, and this was the best Valentine’s Day gift.”

Now, Hiro enjoys cuddles, countryside walks, and peaceful evenings with Natasha. “He’s my Valentine, my joy,” she said. “We’ll be together forever.”
