The rescue team at Birmingham Dogs Home were left in shock, after they were alerted to two dogs that had been left tied to a tree.

"Underweight, scared and abandoned", the two Belgian Malinois were left only metres from the rescue centre.

"They are in terrible condition, severely underweight with large patches of fur missing and hives all over their bodies", explained the team on Facebook. "Understandably, they were nervous and reactive".

Medical care and rehabilitation

The dogs were immediately rushed to the vet for medical attention, and are now receiving rehabilitation at the centre.

"Someone must recognise them or know someone who recently had to dogs and now doesn't. If you have any information, please get in touch", the Dogs Home appealed on Facebook.

The rise in welfare cases

"We are seeing a heartbreaking rise in welfare cases this year - dogs neglected, discarded and suffering through no fault of their own", explained a spokesperson for the rescue.

Dog lovers across the UK were shocked by the case.

"This is getting dreadful. Poor little dogs", wrote a viewer on Facebook.

"Awful but it’s good they are away from the owners at least now they will have a chance at a decent life with people who love them", agreed another.
