Shelter staff and volunteers often say they can tell when a dog has lived with a family before.
In San Antonio, a dog named Coco arrived at the city shelter. Friendly and affectionate, he eagerly accepted strokes from those at the facility. It was clear to staff that Coco had once been part of a family.
Facebook post that changed everything
"This is a dog who's missing someone, and someone's missing him too," said Lisa, public relations manager for San Antonio City Animal Care Services.
Hoping to reunite Coco with his owner, the shelter posted an announcement about him online.
Happy reunion
Sure enough, a woman immediately recognised him. Coco had originally belonged to her brother before she took him in.
Staff soon discovered that Coco had made a daring escape: "It turned out she had crossed a busy motorway and headed to another neighbourhood a few miles away!"
Coco’s owner wasted no time and drove straight to the shelter to collect her beloved pet.
That day, as the pair were reunited, staff and volunteers couldn’t hold back their tears.
