Rescuers were heartbroken when they saw little Snorkel. Aged 10, he had spent his whole life in a home- then his family surrendered him for a shocking reason.

When Snorkel was brought into A Purposeful Rescue in Los Angeles, shelter staff couldn't believe what they were hearing.

The adorable 10-year-old Dachshund had simply become "too old", so his family decided to sign him over.

Urgent care

On the 17th of January his family dropped him off at the shelter.

Rescuers rushed to take care of him, trying to reassure and comfort the disoriented pup.

Dog lovers around the world were heartbroken to see Snorkel worried and confused at the shelter. "They simply gave up the best thing one can experience in life", shared a viewer.

Sadly, older dogs often have a hard time finding homes, with many prospective adopters choosing puppies or adolescent dogs.

A touch of kindness

Fortunately for Snorkel, his story soon went viral, resulting in the perfect foster family coming forward to offer him a place to stay.

An update shared by the rescue showed a contented Snorkel stretching his paws in his foster home while he waits for his forever family to find him.
