At the start of 2025, little Willy was given a new home with the promise of a bright future after his time in a shelter. But sadly, that future was short-lived.
After just 14 days, staff were stunned when the three-month-old puppy was returned to the shelter.
Returned to the shelter
Thanks to the intervention of the charity Les Anges du Rail, he was taken to SPAGA, an animal welfare organisation in Normandy, France, in the hope of finding him a permanent home.
But why was Willy given back to the shelter? Was he too difficult to handle? Malinois are active dogs, and puppies require plenty of patience, training, and time.
However, according to the adopter’s explanation, shared by SPAGA on their Facebook page, his behaviour was not the main issue.
The adopter admitted that Willy was energetic but also revealed that they had concerns about their own ability to care for the dog. The man worked more than seven hours a day and had a new director who might alter his schedule. This begs the question: Why adopt a dog in the first place?
One of his cats was also frightened by the puppy.
Hope for Willy
Most strikingly, the man admitted that he had not realised how much attention a puppy would need. While his honesty is at least commendable, the shelter expressed disappointment at the lack of consideration before adopting Willy in the first place.
But the good news is that Willy has now been put up for adoption again.
Hopefully, this time, he will find a family fully prepared to provide the care and commitment he deserves.
