Jacob, a park employee, discovered the puppy in a prefabricated toilet that let in the cold.
The poor animal was severely underweight, shivering, and surrounded by dog excrement. It had no access to water and only a small bowl of food. Had it been left any longer, it might not have survived.
Police investigation
The police launched an investigation to track down the puppy’s owner. When questioned, the original owner admitted to abandoning the dog because her landlord had prohibited pets in the building.
Following the incident, the police took to Facebook to remind pet owners of their responsibilities. They urged people to be accountable for their animals, stating: "Remember, you chose the animal; the animal didn't choose you."
The danger of extreme cold
Police also warned the community about the dangers of extreme cold in the coming weeks, advising residents to bring their pets indoors or provide adequate outdoor shelter. They emphasised that neglecting an animal to the point of harm or death could lead to legal consequences.
The good news is that the puppy, now named Hank, has found a loving home and is thriving in a warm, safe environment.
The police expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped, including the local veterinary clinic for providing vaccinations and the supermarkets that donated food for Hank’s care.
