"Poppy is hurting our hearts", explained Oakwood Dog Rescue, sharing a clip of the little black dog to Facebook.
Desperately clinging to the volunteer's leg, Poppy was trying to keep them with her for as long as possible.
Poppy's story
"Here she is still sad and confused and holding on to our volunteers leg, in the hopes she will stay with her for as long as possible", explained the rescue.
"Dogs that have been in homes never cope well when they find themselves back in kennels and she has now been back with us for 13 long weeks, this will be feeling so much longer for poor Poppy".
Unfortunately for this sensitive soul, circumstances beyond their control meant Poppy's family had no option but to return her to rescue.
Hoping for happiness
The rescue are now doing all they can to ensure Poppy feels as comfortable as possible during her time with them.
Nervous and easily startled by new things, she will need a patient, experienced family to help her settle into her new home.
With over 45,000 views on Facebook, the hope is that Poppy will soon find the perfect match, ready to care for her for the rest of her days.
