A man in Washington was left in disbelief, after he opened a cardboard box and found a tiny family trapped inside. With no way out, they urgently needed help.

When he first spotted the box on his driveway, the kind samaritan knew something was very wrong. And with temperatures due to rise to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, he immediately decided to look inside.

Peering in through a small corner of the abandoned cardboard box, he found many little eyes staring back. A whole litter of kittens had been abandoned with their mother, and they were overheating at an alarming rate.

An urgent rescue

He rushed them to The Humane Society of Mason County, where he knew the team would be equipped to help.

"He was overwhelmed with concern for them because it was expected to be over 80 degrees that day", a representative told the Dodo.

"We were nervous to look inside, fearing for the condition of the cats", they recalled. "Finally, when the box was opened, we found that all the animals were alive, and though they were dehydrated and hot, they were fairly alert".

New beginnings

The cats were given much needed veterinary treatment, and left to cool down.

Thankfully, they all recovered well from their ordeal, and received new names from the team who saved them.

"After all they endured, they certainly earned the names of champions", the representative explained. And as they were found during the Summer Olympics, they were named after famous athletes.

The quick thinking of their rescuer saved them, and they all went on to find loving homes of their own.
