Devon firefighters launch urgent rescue mission for cat stranded in river

Firefighters in Devon were called to an urgent animal rescue just after midnight, responding to reports of a distressed cat.

Upon arrival at Lemon Road, Newton Abbot, they found Coconut, the cat, stranded along the riverbank.

Two concerned owners had alerted the emergency services, stating their pet had fallen into the river.

Rescue mission

While Coconut remained safe on the bank, firefighters Sam Hunt and Dom Lever donned water rescue flood suits and entered the shallow river to retrieve the cat.

After a brief walk through the water, the firefighters safely rescued Coconut and reunited the feline with its relieved owners.

Safe and sound

Fortunately, Coconut was in good health despite being a bit wet, and the crew escaped without any scratches.

Newton Abbot Fire Station shared the successful rescue on Facebook, joking that, contrary to popular belief, they don’t just save cats from trees. Fortunately for everyone, the rescue was straightforward and the team was pleased with the outcome.
