Dwight found himself in an animal shelter in upstate New York, after his family left him and other cats behind when they moved.
Staff hoped the friendly feline would be quick to find his forever home, but 61 days went by and the ginger tomcat was still waiting.
Holding hands
Then, one day, Lisa Cech visited the shelter, and was blown away by Dwight's behaviour.
"Dwight greets me everytime by reaching out his paw as soon as he hears me coming", she told The Dodo. "He patiently waits until we get to his cage, and then he'll grab my hand and purr".
The caring volunteer managed to capture the moment, later sharing the clip to TikTok.
An internet sensation
Dwight's gentle, sweet nature quickly transformed him into an internet sensation, touching the hearts of 1.4 million cat lovers.
"This is the most heartbreaking thing in the world", commented a viewer.
"I need an update that he's been adopted", shared another.
And thankfully, it seems this lovely boy may just be in luck. Lisa later updated the video to explain that Dwight had an adoption application pending. Hopefully he'll soon be settled in his new home, with all the cuddles he deserves.
