As they got closer, they realised, to their amazement, it was a kitten, shivering in the cold.
The young cat was too frightened to let anyone approach, quickly darting back into the rocks when anyone tried to get close.
Failed rescue attempts
She remained elusive despite efforts to lure her with food and set a humane trap. Several attempts to rescue the kitten failed, leaving her fate uncertain for weeks.
Eventually, the Urban Cat Coalition was notified of a new sighting, prompting volunteers to return to the beach. Lifeguards Emilie and her team scoured the area but had no luck locating the kitten.
Shoelace trick
The following morning, volunteers Karen and Sara tried again. Karen had an idea this time: she used her shoelace to catch the kitten's attention while offering ham as bait.
Intrigued by the dangling string, the kitten slowly approached, giving Karen just enough time to grab her.
The kitten was taken to a warm home, where she quickly adjusted to her new surroundings. Now safe, she enjoys cuddling in her basket and purring contentedly, no longer afraid of humans.
