As they got closer, it became clear that the odd sight was actually a poor dog with its head trapped inside a plastic bowl.
After the first sightings of the lab mix were reported to local police, a photo was quickly shared, asking for public assistance with finding it.
Community response
Concern over the dog's ability to breathe led to an immediate response from the community.
Volunteers, including Mayor Dan Davis, animal control officers, and local police, began searching the area. The dog was eventually spotted but quickly fled when approached, complicating the rescue efforts.
Officers used drones to aid the search and even tried darting the dog with a sedative, but the dog ran off. Despite all this effort, the dog remained elusive for some time.
Rescued at last!
Later that day, the dog was finally captured and taken to a vet for a check-up. "She has been captured and is en route to the vet!" Manvel police announced on Facebook, expressing gratitude to the community, animal control, and rescue groups for their support.
The dog is now safe and receiving the necessary care.
Phew!
