He may be the star of Downing Street, but Larry the cat may have to share the limelight with a new fluffy resident.

Larry the Downing Street cat has resided at Number 10 since 2011, but may soon have to share his famous home with a new arrival.

The tabby and white tomcat has already lived with six Prime Ministers, but this time he will have to share his home with Keir Starmer and his family.

A summer negotiation

This summer, Kier Starmer's children engaged in intense negotiations with their parents in order to fulfil a wish close to their hearts: to have a kitten.

Although Larry is well established in Downing Street, he has clearly not found a place of choice in the hearts of Keir Starmer's children, who dream of having a newer and younger kitty.

Grumpy Larry

To be fair, Larry is not known for being the most accommodating: now aged 17, this feline celebrity has already had difficult relationships with previous PMs' pets, as was the case with Nova, Rishi Sunak's dog.

In addition, the rather temperamental tomcat already shares his home with Jojo, who accompanied the Starmer family when the Prime Minister took office.

On his Twitter account, Larry has already made a shock announcement: this future kitten will have to bow his authority.

Although we haven't yet seen the face of the future arrival, it is believed to be a Siberian kitten. Let's wish him the best of luck when he comes face to face with the famous grumpy tomcat!
