It was the Comms Center of Palmhurst Police Department that first received the alert, after a passer-by spotted a cat with a jar stuck on its head.
With temperatures rising, the team knew they had to act as fast as they could.
Frantic and frightened
"We're unsure how long this poor feline had been suffering in this heat and unable to see, but action needed to be taken immediately", reported the department on their Facebook page.
This was accompanied by a video, which shows the rescue mission as it unfolded.
Removing the jar
At first, the team struggle to get hold of the cat, who is clearly disoriented and distressed.
With the jar covering his eyes, the cat runs off at one point, unaware the men are trying to help him.
Having been covered with a jacket, he settles enough to allow the plastic container to be removed. Panting and exhausted, his relief is palpable.
"We're happy to report that Jar Jar was freed and transported to PVAS for medical evaluation!", the team explained.
