For the first months of his life, gentle giant Wesley endured excruciating pain at the hands of humans. Now, he has a second chance at happiness.

When Austin Animal Center were first called in to rescue Wesley, they couldn't believe what they saw.

The poor pup had been living in agonising conditions, with a piece of rope tied so tightly around his neck, it had created a deep and painful wound.

Urgent care

Austin Animal Center took Wesley in, and removed the rope from his neck.

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog was then transferred to the Austin Pets Alive! shelter, who recently posted his story to Facebook.

In need of a family

Wesley has continued to be treated for his wound at the Austin shelter, at a total cost of 750 dollars.

Appealing for help to support Wesley's care, and find him a new home, staff told the story of this incredible survivor.

"Wesley is finally free of that rope, but he's not yet free of the pain and fear it caused. His journey to recovery is just beginning. Wesley's eyes tell a story of fear and neglect, yet within him, there flickers a beautiful, hopeful spirit, eager for a chance to play and feel loved. And boy, he deserves it".

Now, the rescue hopes Wesley will find a foster carer, to show him how fun and happy life in a home can be. Then, once he's fully healed, he will be ready to find his forever family.
