The Humane Society of Tampa Bay recently decided to share Lucy's story, shedding light on one of the most misunderstood reasons dogs get brought in to rescue.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay in Florida regularly rescues and rehabilitates abandoned and unloved dogs.

But this wasn't the case for Lucy, who was brought in directly by her owner.

The best girl

Lucy spent the first year of her life surrounded by all the love and warmth of a home. She had everything she needed, and was adored by her owner.

But sadly, as is often the case for dogs brought in to rescue, things took a dramatic turn. Her human lost his home, and was no longer able to offer Lucy the care and attention she needed.

A heartbreaking decision

Knowing he couldn't give his beloved companion what she deserved, her owner made the most difficult decision. He brought her in to the Tampa shelter, so that she could find a more stable home.

He made sure Lucy had her toys and blankets, and said a heartbreaking goodbye.

Sharing Lucy's story, the shelter wanted to make people aware that this is, unfortunately, "a common reason why so many animals end up in shelters".

Now Lucy finds herself up for adoption, patiently waiting for the right family to offer her a loving home of her own.
