The litter of puppies were discovered outside in a dirty bathtub by a student dormitory in temperatures minus five.
Heartbreaking discovery
After receiving the call from the police, shelter staff prepared a warm box for the puppies. They naturally assumed that as there was no mother with them, the puppies were old enough to eat on their own and fend for themselves.
But when the puppies arrived and were taken out of the car, the distinct cries of newborn puppies filled the air. Their umbilical cords were still attached. These tiny puppies were less than two days old and very helpless.
Staff immediately set about warming up the puppies and giving them replacement milk. It was remarkable that the puppies had survived. The staff took the tiny dogs home to continue to give them food and care around the clock.
Concerns for mother
But it’s not just the puppies who have suffered. Somewhere, there is a mother without her babies. Shelter staff took to social media to appeal to the owner to urge them to contact the shelter to ensure the mother’s well-being:
While the rescued pups are now receiving dedicated care, the lingering concern remains for the puppies’ mother. We hope they can all be reunited very soon.
