The Cowes Lifeboat crew received a rather unusual call on Sunday, from a very worried owner who was at a loss as to how to help their four-legged friend.

Cowes Lifeboat crew are no strangers to calls for help, regularly assisting people in precarious positions on the water.

But the call they received on Sunday was a little unusual, involving not a person, but their pet.

An urgent rescue

The owner of the cat in need had located their pet by following the sound of their meows, which lead to a pontoon in the marina.

With their feline friend completely stuck and in desperate need of help, they knew they had to call in the experts.

Jumping to safety

The coastguard, concerned that a member of the public might try to help, immediately dispatched the lifeboat crew, who were coming to the end of a training exercise nearby.

Using a series of tools, the team managed to dismantle part of the pontoon. This was all the cat needed to jump out and run off to safety.

The owner later got in touch to confirm the curious kitty was back home, recovering from their ordeal.
