Victoria Northwood from Sherborne in Dorset had become concerned about her little black Pug named Ham after the usually lively two-year-old had become subdued and seemed under the weather.
Poorly Pug
Prompted by Ham's sudden change in behaviour, Victoria consulted a vet, expecting routine advice. However, what they learned left them utterly unprepared.
The vet decided to x-ray Ham to see if it could shed any light on what was wrong. To everyone's amazement, especially Victoria, the x-ray showed that the little dog had ingested a substantial amount of hairbands.
But there was still another surprise to come.
Stomach full of hairbands
Ham quickly underwent surgery to remove the hairbands from her stomach, and it was then that it was discovered how many hairbands there were. The vet was stunned to discover a stomach full of around 50 to 60 hairbands, totalling 200g. The bizarre incident is especially noteworthy considering Ham's petite 6kg frame.
Victoria admitted that while they were aware of Ham occasionally snacking on hairbands, the sheer quantity in her stomach caught her off guard. The vet commended the family for their vigilance in seeking help when they sensed something was amiss.
Fortunately, Ham, named after Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, has fully recovered and returned home to resume her usual mischief. Her relieved family is now looking closer at their furry friend, grateful for the vet's prompt intervention and diligent care.
