The box, concealed amidst bushes, was found in the small town of Brzeg, Opole, in Poland.
Heartbreaking discovery
Untying the tightly secured rope, the shelter volunteer uncovered four tiny newborn kittens nestled inside a box meant for pesticides.
The kittens, only a few days old, clung to each other in a desperate attempt to ward off the evident signs of hypothermia. The shelter volunteer was horrified at what they'd found.
These defenceless kittens had been separated from their mother and deliberately abandoned to an almost certain death.
Angry social media post
The shelter took to social media to condemn the heartless act. The shelter volunteers were understandably angry by the cruel and calculated actions of the person who left the kittens and their cowardice in discarding the kittens as if they were just rubbish.
In a stroke of luck, the shelter's social media post led to a foster family coming forward who offered to care for the vulnerable felines.
Hopefully, the kittens can now look forward to enjoying a happy life with a loving family.
