Nikki’s owner had passed away, leaving her to navigate the world alone with only the comfort of her cherished soft toy.
Heartbreaking sight
Seeing Nikki’s plight, a compassionate neighbour began feeding her and shared the dog’s online, triggering a community-wide response.
Concerned neighbours contacted various rescue groups about the German Shepherd mix, including South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, Almost Home Animal Rescue, and It Is Pawzable Dog Training, hoping to orchestrate a rescue mission for the orphaned dog.
Eventually, a neighbour could take Nikki to her home, where volunteers arranged her journey to the shelter.
Road to recovery
Sugar Mutts Grooming provided Nikki with a pampering session, and subsequent veterinary visits revealed the need for extensive heartworm treatment. Despite the hurdles, the collective efforts of these rescue organisations, driven purely by a love for animals, ensured Nikki’s safety and well-being.
Now, under the care of a veterinarian, Nikki is undergoing treatment while staying with a foster family until she fully recovers.
Nikki is now clean, fed and safe, and she’s even got a new soft toy to cuddle as she awaits a new chapter in a loving forever home.
